Ford, Nissan making moves to attract new electric car customers

Ford is offering a lease that pays for itself on one of their cutting-edge electric vehicles.

The Ford Focus is being offered through a 36-month lease for a monthly payment of $285, with $900 due at signing. The offer stands through April 1, 2013.

This could be a steal for a commuter. The cost of operating an electric vehicle is about a penny and a half per mile when you consider what it costs you in electricity.

Meanwhile, the price of the Nissan Leaf has now been dropped to $28,000 for 2013. If you buy, you’re eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit, plus possible state credits. That can make it as little as $16,000 for an all-electric car!
