Things are changing at Republic Wireless
The carrier is unique because it utilizes Wi-Fi for calls, text and data — whenever possible.
Since 2011, Republic Wireless has offered cheap phone plans and only a few devices, but that’s all about to change.
Second carrier partner
Current customers know that Republic Wireless partners with Sprint for the times when there is no Wi-Fi available. But now, they’re adding a second carrier.
Here’s what Republic Wireless said in a news release:
Furthermore, a second of the four national cellular carriers has agreed to join the Republic WiFi first party, and as a result these new devices will be available on our new GSM cellular network partner, who boasts the nation's fastest 4G LTE network.
T-Mobile was not mentioned by name, but the carrier does claim to have the fastest nationwide 4G LTE network.
New phones
Along with this new partnership, Republic will be rolling out new phones. This is huge because the carrier currently only offers two on its website: Moto G and Moto E.
Starting in late July, Republic will add nine new phones to its portfolio, including top Android devices from Samsung and Nexus.
They’ll also have two new Motorola devices at a lower price point.
- Moto G4 – $199
- Moto G4 Plus – $299
- Moto X Pure Edition – $349
- Nexus 5X by LG – $349
- Nexus 6P by Huawei – $499
- Samsung Galaxy J3 – $179
- Samsung Galaxy S6 – $549
- Samsung Galaxy S7 – $699
- Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge – $799
According to a news release, you can either buy the phones at Republic or bring you own (new or used) to its network.

Phone plans
Now, let’s get to how much this will all cost. For anyone who’s interesting in the new devices coming July 28, you’ll have to choose from one of Republic’s “Clear Choice” plans.
You can get 1GB of LTE data for $20 a month, in addition to unlimited talk, text and Wi-Fi data.
And because of Republic’s reliance on Wi-Fi, it says 85% of current members would be just fine with the $20 plan. Republic says some of the new plans are half the cost of the big carriers.
By the way, existing customers with the $10 plan on the Sprint network can keep it with their current device.
