Where to get a deal on cheap headphones

If you’re a fan of listening to music or podcasts on the go, then you know headphones are an indispensable part of your life.

Sure, you could pay more than a hundred bucks for Beats by Dr. Dre or Apple AirPods. But if you’re a fan of saving money, you may want to consider cheaper headphones.

There are a variety of reliable brands such as JBL, Anker, Motorola, Jabra and more, to name just a few, that make great affordable headphones!

How much should I expect to pay for cheap headphones?

The latest pricing data on cheap headphones suggests there’s a big split in the market depending on what functionality you want in your headphones.

For example, garden variety headphones without a lot of bells and whistles averaged out around $42.70 at last check, according to Futuresource Consulting.

Yet more recent data from Futursource for 2020 suggests that if you’re looking for fancy true wireless headphones, you’ll pay more than 3 times as much — $152 on average.

That said, you can still find deals on fancy headphones that also happen to be cheaper in price point…if you know where to look!

Where should I look for cheap headphones?

There’s certainly no shortage of places to look for cheap headphones. You’ve got the big-box stores like Walmart and Target, along with the usual go-to sites for electronics like eBay.

But some of our other favorite places to hunt for cheap headphones include the dedicated daily deal sites and daily deal pages of electronics retailers.

For example, B&H Photo’s Deal Zone recently had a one-day only special on Motorola Verve Loop 200 wireless in-ear headphones for $11.99 with free shipping. That beat the price on eBay by $6.

Daily deal site Morning Save also recently had Bluestone Flexi Bluetooth 5.0 rubber finish headphones for $23 shipped. That was $114 off list price!

Amazon and eBay, meanwhile, also offer great deals from time to time. Amazon recently had Anker headphones & earbuds from $18, while eBay was selling Jabra Elite or Active 45e Bluetooth headphones for $20 with free shipping.

What are the best cheap headphones?

In the $50 and under category, Consumer Reports likes two models in particular: Anker SoundCore Life Q20 ($50) and Monoprice BT-300ANC ($45).

But money expert Clark Howard has his own pick that he likes: Trekz. These futuristic-looking headphones (pictured above) tend to price out around $120, but can sometimes be found for as little as $80 and up.

“I use Trekz, and a lot of people think those of us who wear Trekz look like we’re something out of the Borg Collective from Star Trek, because they’re really odd-looking,” Clark says. “They bone-conduct instead of going in your ears.”

Trekz are made by Aftershokz, a U.S. company that specializes in bone-conduction headphones and earphones. They’re now sold on the Aftershokz website under the name Airs.
