When you want to get fit, it’s always good to have a little help from technology. That’s where a sports watch can really come into play!

Sport watches (aka fitness trackers) are typically water and sweat resistant; made from durable materials so they hold up to the rigors of exercise; and are super-easy to read at a quick glance for when you’re in the zone and can’t pause to read a tiny display!

They also usually have specific functions (like a stopwatch or altitude measurements, for example) to cater to whatever your preferred fitness activity may be: Running, swimming, climbing and so on.

Where can I buy a sports watch?

Sports watches are available at a wide variety of retailers ranging from department stores like Macy’s to big-box stores like Walmart and Target.

Dedicated electronics retailers can also be a great place to buy a sports watch, particularly if they have a daily deals section of their website where they sell items super-cheap!

For example, B&H Photo & Video has recently had some great deals on sports watches in their Deal Zone. In early April 2021, the Amazfit T-Rex Multi-Sport GPS smartwatch was $84.99. Meanwhille, the same smartwatch was being sold for $119.99 at QVC, so you would have saved $35 with this deal that particular day!

Even better yet, B&H has several times over the past year offered the Letscom fitness tracker watch for $12.99. That always beats the Amazon price hands down!

eBay is also a good place to check for sport watches. Even Best Buy has been occasionally known to offer deep discounts on this product category.

What is the best sports watch?

When it comes to best-of rankings, we often like to cite Consumer Reports because of their unbiased testing and ranking. The magazine recently took a look at 18 different fitness trackers and gave its “Best Buy” recommendation to the following models:

  • Garmin Forerunner 235
  • Fitbit Inspire 2
  • Garmin Forerunner 35
  • Samsung Galaxy Fit
  • Fitbit Charge 4
  • Fitbit Inspire HR
  • Garmin Vivosmart 4
  • Withings Pulse HR
  • Garmin Vivofit 4

As you can see, names like Garmin and Fitbit really lead the charge in the Consumer Reports ranking!

What kind of prices should I expect to pay for a sports watch?

Sports watches can, of course, cost hundreds of dollars. Or you can pay $25 or less for one! So the choice is really yours depending on what kind of functionality you want in your watch.

In general, some of the great price points we’ve noticed during the first 4 months of 2021 have ranged from $13 to more than $300.

One strategy for getting the best deal on a sports watch is to shop seasonally. We pulled data from CamelCamelCamel for the Garmin Forerunner 235, the top pick from Consumer Reports.

By analyzing the price points, we see that this sports watch was priced lowest at two particular times during the past year β€” November (Black Friday season) and May. So if you can time your buy to coincide with these months, that’s one smart way to save money!

Meanwhile, you can always consider buying refurbished. That’s the kind of deal you can get all year long!
