As a daily deals site that strives to bring you the very best deals from around the web, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the newest deal from MoviePass — a $9.95 a month bottom-of-the-barrel bargain that offers you almost unlimited movie-watching every day of the year.
But since it is our mission to be a deals site you can trust, we wouldn’t be doing our job if we did not tell you about the undeniable customer service issues MoviePass has had. Since offering it’s initial unheard-of $9.95 per month pricing for access to movie theaters nationwide, MoviePass has been the target of a slew of customer complaints and the company hasn’t really been able to keep pace. There are also some security concerns around MoviePass.
Just a brief perusal on MoviePass’ Facebook page reveals that MoviePass still has work to do in the customer service department. But, there are still big fans of MoviePass, despite the company’s customer service track record.
Annette, who volunteers in Clark’s Consumer Action Center has tried MoviePass. This is what she thinks of the service:
“It’s a cheap way to go see movies!! All you have to do is see one a month and it’s paid for. And I don’t have any regrets in case the movie I watched wasn’t that great. I can be the cool mom and take my kids to movies whenever I want to!â€
How it works: Once you buy MoviePass, you’ll get a card within 7 to 10 business days that looks like a MasterCard. Then, when you want to see a movie, buy tickets in advance through the MoviePass app (available for select theaters) or show up at an eligible theater to watch your movie with your MoviePass credit card. Note that you’ll need a smartphone to be able to use MoviePass, since it requires an app.
So, we tell you about this deal with a caution: As Clark has said, it’s both a hazard and an opportunity. If you need to cancel your account, go to MoviePass’ website here.
Note: The $9.95 a month plan lets you watch 1 movie per day, but you cannot watch the same movie twice. MoviePass also has a plan for $7.95 that allows you access to 3 movies per month and a free 3-month trial of iHeartRadio All Access.
