If you’re a film fan and you enjoy getting out to go to the theater every month, then MoviePass just made the cinematic experience more enticing. The company offers a deal that is $9.95 per month with a year subscription.
We’ve told you about MoviePass before and how it’s had issues with, as money expert Clark Howard puts it, “customer no-service.”
The service also has caught its fair share of flak about its business model, which has made movie tickets so affordable to customers because it turns around and sells your data.
Also, shortly after launch the MoviePass website and app got so much traffic that its servers were inundated, causing glitches and timeouts, according to engadget.com.
So is it a deal … or not? Well if you have a big problem with companies that monetize your data — not just the personal information you give them upon signup, but your viewing habits and any other metrics they can glean — you may feel that access to the latest movies for the price of a McDonald’s Value Meal may be too high.
On the other hand, if you’re a true movie buff and the aroma of fresh, buttered popcorn in a dark room is your idea of heaven, what could be better?
