NASA only recommends a handful of manufacturers from which to purchase solar eclipse glasses. And those manufacturers are having a tough time keeping up with demand.
But Lowe’s is selling single paper sunglasses, made by American Paper Optics, for $1.98 apiece. And they are one of the few recommended manufacturers. There are other reputable retail chains and online vendors that you can purchase from as well – but this pair from Lowe’s met all of the NASA specifications and we feel very comfortable recommending them. (Note: These are no longer available for shipping; pick them up in a local store where stock permits! Some stores are sold out of these glasses, but many stores still have large quantities available.)
Of note: If you are outfitting an army of solar eclipse watchers, you can purchase sets of 50 glasses directly from American Paper Optics for $62.50. At that price, each pair costs $1.25.
Another note: Warby Parker is giving away free eclipse glasses at their physical stores. If you live near one, stop by and pick up a pair for no charge! Many local libraries are also giving away eclipse glasses for free!
