The beauty of making some of your own beauty products at home is that you avoid toxic chemicals being applied to your body. But there’s another benefit to this process and it directly affects your wallet.

This is especially true if you’re in the habit of paying extra for some of the more high-end natural products out on the market!

If you haven’t tried making some of your own beauty products at home, here are a couple of tried and true recipes you may want to try yourself. And once you try them out, be sure to come back and tell us how they worked out for you!

How to save by making your own beauty products

Homemade Shampoo

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • 1/3 cup liquid castile soap (lavender is my favorite)
  • 1 tsp olive oil

Directions:

1. Mix all ingredients together in an empty shampoo bottle (shake really well).

2. Use about a teaspoon every time you shampoo (more if you have really long hair).

Tip: For a leave-in conditioner, a small amount of coconut oil will do the trick.

Homemade Body Scrub

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raw granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1 tsp honey

Directions:

1. Mix all ingredients together.
2. Store in an air-tight container, and refrigerate it if you want it to last longer than a couple of weeks.

Homemade Deodorant

Ingredients:

  • 6 TB coconut oil
  • 1 TB baking soda
  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 1/2 cup arrowroot powder
  • A few drops of lavender essential oil (optional)

Directions:

1. Mix all ingredients together.

2. If mixture isn’t thick enough, add additional arrowroot powder.

3. Add mixture to an old deodorant container, or you can scoop it out of any old container to apply.
