Republic Wireless debuts new phones and plans

For those who aren’t familiar, Republic Wireless’ technology relies heavily on Wi-Fi for calls, text messages and the Internet. The carrier says it blends Wi-Fi with cellular to create “expanded network coverage” at a lower cost.

How much will the new plans cost? More on that in a second. First, take a look at the new devices:

  • Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge – $799
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 – $699
  • Samsung Galaxy J3 – $179
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 – $549
  • Nexus 6P by Huawei – $499
  • Nexus 5X by LG – $349
  • Moto X Pure Edition – $349
  • Moto G4 – $199
  • Moto G4 Plus – $299

Starting August 11, you can also buy a SIM card from Republic and activate an account using your own device from the list. If you’re looking for a cheaper phone, Republic says stay tuned for more options.

In the meantime, if you get one of the phones, you’ll have these no contract plans to choose from:

  • Unlimited Talk & Text + WiFi Data /$15 a month
  • Unlimited Talk & Text + WiFi Data + 1GB Cellular Data / $20 a month
  • Unlimited Talk & Text + WiFi Data + 2GB Cellular Data / $30 a month
  • Unlimited Talk & Text + WiFi Data + 4GB Cellular Data / $45 a month

Due to its heavy reliance on Wi-Fi, Republic says the $20 1GB plan would be enough for 85% of its members. However, there are additional plans that offer up to 10GB of data.

Republic Wireless has an impressive satisfaction rating among PC Magazine readers, and Clark has spoken highly about what the company is doing for several years.
