Looking for the best places to buy cheap tools? When you’ve got a job to do around the house, you need the right tool to get it done!
A lot of people will just default to running out to the nearest big-box home improvement store and buying whatever they need. Of course, the Home Depots and Lowe’s of the world aren’t necessarily a bad place to get your tools. And sometimes convenience is king.
But you may want to consider taking a new more nuanced approach to finding the best places to buy cheap tools…
Daily deal sites
Woot is our favorite pick for cheap tools in the world of daily deal sites because it has a dedicated tool page. Each day, Woot will post a deal in this category that is 24-hours only. So inventory turns over on a daily basis and then it’s gone, unless it sells out earlier. In that case, it will be replaced by another tool deal until the next day when it will change again.
As one example, Woot recently had a selection of Craftsman tools for under $25. Included was the Craftsman 17-piece 1/4″ drive socket wrench set (9-34862) for $19.99, which was a $29.56 savings on the regular price. Other deals included a 6-piece ratchet & socket set for $12.99 and a 4-piece pro screwdriver set for $21.99.
Remember, these deals are no longer available since Woot changes its deals out daily. But we post them just to give you a sense of the kind of deals you can get!
Big-box home improvement stores
As we mentioned earlier, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with buying cheap tools at The Home Depot or Lowe’s. In fact, they often have some of the best prices.
But here’s a different approach to shopping the big-box stores you may not have considered. Did you know that Home Depot in particular has daily deals? Much like Woot, the inventory turns over on a daily basis and you can score some rock-bottom prices!
For example, Home Depot recently sold a Ridgid 18-volt cordless 3-tool combo kit with OCTANE brushless router, OCTANE brushless jigsaw and random orbit sander for $199. That is a $60 savings!
And that’s just one deal of dozens on days when Home Depot posts cheap tool deals. Of course, there’s no telling what product category they’ll run deals on during any given day. That’s why it really pays to check our rundown of the best daily deals at Home Depot or sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of this page so the deals come to your inbox!
Meanwhile, each week we comb through the circulars at Lowe’s Home Improvement and also pick out the best deals on tools and more at that home improvement store.
Discount tool retailers: Harbor Freight & Northern Tool
Harbor Freight is another great place to pick up cheap tools. This discount tool retailer recently had a 21-piece Bauer titanium drill bit set for $15.99 with free store pickup. Compared to the next best price we found on the same set from a reputable seller — $40.90 shipped from eBay — that was a savings of nearly $18!
Anytime you’re thinking about shopping Harbor Freight, you can find the latest coupons here.
Not to be outdone by its competitor, Northern Tool also offers great deals on cheap tools that are worth a look. For example, we’ve previously seen a Milwaukee M18 cordless impact wrench and battery for $207. The same wrench is typically found at Supply.com for $249. So you can see the savings!
