Hit the slopes by train!
On your upcoming trips to the Rockies for a bit of play and skiing, skip hefty rental car fees and the hassle of highway back-ups on Colorado’s I-70. Instead, take the Amtrak Winter Park Express weekend service from Denver’s Union Station to the base of Winter Park Resort (Fridays-Sundays only).
The small mountain town of Winter Park offers more than 3,000 acres of skiable terrain, 3,000 feet of vertical rise, and 7 distinct territories designed for every skill level.
This historic train, which originated in 1912, features a bi-level Superliner Sightseer Lounge with windows that start at the floor level and wrap into the ceiling of the railcar — and onboard snack and beverage service.
Here’s a look at the Winter Park Express schedule:
- Depart Denver’s Union station at 7:00 am and arrive to Winter Park at 9:00 am
- Depart Winter Park at 4:30 pm and arrive to Union station at 6:40 pm
For a limited time, early-bird rates of $29 one-way are offered on select departures. When that price level is sold out, other tickets will be priced $39, $49 and then $59 respectively. Only a limited number of seats are available for each train and each price level. Discount tickets are valid for January 10-March 29 travel on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. One child age 2 – 12 may accompany each adult (18 years or older) at half price.
Book early as these discount tickets are hugely popular with Denver locals!
When you’re ready to book, select round-trip from DEN to Winter Park Ski Resort (WPR). Passengers 62 and older should use the Adult passenger type. A maximum of 8 tickets can be booked at the same time.
There are special boarding and equipment loading procedures for this train. Take a look at all the details on what to do with your gear before you head out for the station.
Don’t forget to book your Winter Park Resort lift tickets and slopeside lodging.
