Save big on tours to Egypt!

Few destinations in the world boast the mystique of Egypt. And I was delighted to see that the very upscale Adventures by Disney recently added Egypt to their list of destinations for 2020.

Mention Egypt as your next travel spot at a gathering and many may cringe and say it’s not safe. But the country’s political situation has stabilized and 2018 saw a significant increase in tourism and a renewed interest in experiencing its 4,000 years of history.

As to the Disney family-friendly tour β€” it explores Egypt by land, river and sea. Bookings opened in mid-May and quickly sold out. In fact, the sell-out was so fast that per person prices are no longer displayed. But to hazard a guess, the package was very pricey (as are Disney cruises) with per person rates from $5,000+. The 10-Day/9-Night tour includes 25 meals and 22 sites. Five departure dates were reserved for adults-only. Adventures by Disney is accepting guests on a waitlist-basis for most departure dates.

But here are a few alternatives β€” and more affordable – tours that are family-friendly and solo parent + kid-friendly, while taking in Egypt’s top attractions and experiences (minus the Ritz-Carlton and Red Sea beachfront resort).

Intrepid Travel offers an Egypt Family Holiday that tours the land of Feluccas and Pharaohs on an action-packed itinerary that is purpose-built for families. The experience blends all the must-see highlights with plenty of adventurous and off the beaten-track activities. You’ll cruise the Nile in a felucca, sleep under the stars, take an overnight train from Cairo to Aswan, sit down to dinner with a Nubian family in Aswan, see the mummified crocodiles at the Temple of Kom Ombo – and more.

Sights include the Pyramids, Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Philae Temple and Nubian dinner in Aswan and the Temple of Karnak, Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple in Luxor. Included are 7 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 3 dinners; hotel accommodations for five nights, one night aboard the felucca and one overnight on the sleeper train.

The recommended minimum age is 5 (better for ages 8 and up due to the packed itinerary) and the max group is 16. Please note that although cruising the Nile on a felucca is an amazing experience, facilities are basic with shared bathroom and a simple mattress. Some families prefer to bring along sleeping back sack/liners. The folks at Intrepid can assist with any inquiries.

Per person rates are $1,410 ($1,269 per child) on the December 21 departure from Cairo; $1,410 December 21 and $1,425 on select departure dates through September 28. Prices start from $1,425 ($1,283 average per child in a twin shared room) on dozens of departures March 28, 2020 through December 27, 2020. Airfare is additional.

The identical tour is suggested for solo parents and family on select dates into 2020 with adult rates from $1,345 and $1,211 per child.

London-based On The Go Tours also offers an affordable 9-day family-fun tours of Egypt with adult rates from $1,345. Airfare is additional.
