United Airlines is extending flight service between Newark and Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands. Nonstop flights from EWR started June 1 with 3 times weekly service and through at least March 2025.
The flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Newark and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays during the winter season. Flights from Tenerife will depart on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the winter season.
The seven-hour trip is priced from $535 for a Basic Economy seat during these departure windows from EWR:
- October 27-December 10
- December 31-March 4
Upgrade to Economy for slightly more; $1,019 Economy Plus.
Rates from Atlanta are quite affordable starting from $664 when departing October 29-December 10 or January 7-March 4.
You don’t want to go in the summer anyway. For starters, the cheapest economy rates average $1,100. And, the average temperature last summer across the islands was 24.5°C, well over 110F. The islands recorded 200 temperature records, highlighting the severity of the summer heat.
Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands (seven main islands plus over 50 smaller islands), hosted more than 36,500 Americans last year, up from 26,500 in 2022. Most of Tenerife’s six million plus visitors a year hail mainly from the UK and Europe. Think of it as Europe’s Cancun — short flights for max sun and fun.

If Spain mainland or Portugal is on your radar, Delta Air Lines and its SkyTeam partners of Air France and KLM offers Economy rates from Atlanta to Valencia for an average of $570 on October 29-December 11 or January 1-March 4. There are Thanksgiving week blackouts. Add about $100 per direction for Standard Economy and from $150 for Standard Plus. Service requires one flight connection.
Valencia is located on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula.
