There’s more than one Bermuda β€” it’s an archipelago of more than 100. But when you visit you’ll experience the largest island, which is the Bermuda most of us are familiar with. It seems like a world away with it’s old-world sophistication and British customs, but it is just 600 miles off the coast of North Carolina and a 3-hour nonstop flight on Delta Air Lines.

When in the capital of Hamilton you’ll see business men dressed in crisp and prim business shirts, tucked into Bermuda shorts. Bermuda shorts are the norm here by day and paired with a jacket for tea time or the dinner hour. Bathing suits and flip flops are fine for the beach, but not in restaurants. Some restaurants may require men to wear button-up shirts in the evenings. Ask when making reservations.

Those nonstop routes on Delta are priced at about $800 but you can pick up sale rates of $497-$600 Basic Economy on July 1-17 departures from Atlanta. Main Cabin seating starts from $677 during this travel window.

Once on the island, you can get around on the reliable and affordable bus system. Pricey taxis are the only way from the airport to your lodging, but once there you can rent a motorbike (depending on your driving experience, deadly or fun). Driving on the island is on the left, British-style, and the maximum speed limit is 15 mph in Hamilton and 21 mph on the rest of the island.

The newer way to get around (easier and safer) is by a Twizy, and electric two-seater vehicle. It is a microcar even smaller than the Smart by Mercedes. Check out all of these options at GoToBermuda.com. Most rentals have an app to locate charging locations (there are more than 100) and the charges are included in the rental fee. Daily rental fees are $100 and mandatory insurance is about $30 more. This app makes it easy to rent when you need wheels and at the best rate.

Bermuda is also the place for high-end shopping, world-class golf and exceptional sailing. But there are other simple and affordable pleasures. Here are 21 Free or Affordable Things to do in Bermuda. GoToBermuda.com is one of the best tourism websites to discover more about the island(s) and what to see, do, eat, stay β€” including the best low-key beaches. The site is also your go-to to choose accommodations that range from Bed and Breakfasts, Inns, Guest Houses, Cottages, Vacation Rentals to posh Resorts and Hotels.

And you can add other activities easily at Viator.com. Snorkel offshore reefs, shipwrecks followed by a few rum swizzles on a 3-hour cruise.

Bermuda dollar is on par with the U.S. dollar, which is widely accepted. You’ll need a valid passport and proof of your return flight or continuing travels.

Remember that you may cancel your ticketed reservation without penalty and receive a full refund provided that you cancel the reservation within 24-hours after making it and when the reservation is made one week or more before a flight’s departure.

Bag fees run about $30 each way, so pack light and stick to a carryon and avoid the additional fees. Routes on Delta and American are basic economy fares, so be sure to consider all extra charges before booking. Always be sure to price compare to make sure that you’re getting the best deal.Β Google Flights and Kayak.com/explore websites are great resources to check against other carriers. Pricing can change at any time.
