Why I Dig this Deal:

Some of these deals are valid over the Christmas holiday week (most valid Thanksgiving and the New Year).

You are undoubtedly familiar with Clark’s philosophy on travel: “My #1 rule of travel is to buy the deal first and then figure out why you want to go there.”

Well, here you go to Scandinavia! Round-trip economy rates are as low as $440! Depart as soon as mid-August through early March. Some of these deals are valid over the Christmas holiday week (most valid Thanksgiving and the New Year).

Trips to Oslo, Norway are the lowest ($454) when departing October 20-February 26. Add $100 for July 21 to October 10 or February 27-April 23.

Copenhagen, Denmark rates average $470 round-trip on departures as soon as August 13 and through early March.

Head to Helsinki, Finland from late August through early March at rates from just $400 round-trip.

To find these deals, visit Google Flights and choose British Airways or Oneworld from the Airlines drop-down menu. Be careful with choosing a specific flight. Some layover connections in London (BA hub) are quite lengthy. For instance, a flight to Oslo arrives London just after 11 am but the London-Oslo flight does not depart to Oslo until 730 pm. Don’t think you can leave the airport and visit the sights of London during that layover. It’s really too risky and if you don’t make your connecting flight, BA will cancel all remaining flights on your itinerary. The LHR airport is an experience all to itself.

Instead, consider a jaunt to Windsor Castle. The town is charming with boat tours along the picturesque riverside, some charming pubs and restaurants, theatres, and the fantastic Windsor Great Park. A taxi ride is about 20 minutes, $30-$40 one-way. Train costs range $60-$22 with trip duration from 40 minutes to just over an hours.

Pretty river views and lovely independent shops make a visit to Richmond-upon-Thames a real treat. The Richmond Park is three times the size of New York’s Central Park, home to more than 600 red and fallow deer and has some great views with lovely pubs and eateries nearby. Travel time from Heathrow is 30 minutes with a taxi; 45 minutes public transportation.

Have a lengthy layover at an airport? See how far you can go at Rome2Rio.com.

Delta’s partner Air France also offers destinations in Scandinavia from about $480-$550 but departures are limited to late October and again from January through early March.

Remember that these economy fare references are for a basic seat. Fares are non-refundable, non-changeable and you will board the aircraft last. But consider the significant savings! A basic economy fare of $400 to Helsinki is no frills but a Main Economy fare is $1,114 with few perks other than a checked bag.
