It’s happened! For the first time in many months round-trip Basic Economy class airfare from Atlanta to Honolulu, Oahu is under $400! Just one airline is participating, but now’s the time to book your one-way trips (we recommend vs round-trip with one airline) for travel through early March.

The United Airlines deal of $396 is quite restrictive. Tickets cannot be changed, and you will pay more for a carry-on or checked bag and for an advance seat assignment. The next level of fare class is Economy at $268 each way and includes the option to make changes (fare difference may apply), one carry-on bag, and free seat selection.

The under-$400 rate is valid on January 8-March 6 departures ($198 each way) and eastbound January 10-March 5.

Other Basic Economy rates are $260 to Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island of Hawaii with Delta, American, United, and Southwest. This fare is valid on westbound flights from January 9 to mid-March and again from early to mid-May (can vary by availability).

For instance, Delta’s $260 one-way fare to Maui can be upgraded to Main Cabin (still in Economy section) at a rate of $330 each way. The upgrade gets you an advance seat assignment, a free carry-on bag, and the option to make a ticket change (fare difference may apply).

There are no nonstop flights from Atlanta to the islands (one connection is required).

Make haste as these low fares could vanish at any time.

You can DIY the land portion of your trip to the Hawaiian Islands, but you can also bundle your air reservations with accommodations and/or a rental car with your booked airline. Another way to save a bit is to book land components with online travel agencies such as Outrigger, Pleasant Hawaii, and Costco — just to name a few.
