Icelandair is running a sale to Iceland for travel to the Land of Fire and Ice during the peak summer months. Just book by May 10*.

Sample round-trip Economy Light fares on nonstop service departing June 2 through August 31:

  • $436 Boston
  • $447 New York
  • $475 Baltimore or Washington IAD
  • $489 Minneapolis
  • $495 Detroit
  • $497 Raleigh or Pittsburg
  • $557 Chicago

Here’s the one-way fare comparison in the three economy class categories for a sample summer trip from Washington-Dulles to Reykjavik:

  • $206.70 Economy Light
  • No checked baggage
  • 1 carry-on bag
  • Seat selection not included
  • Saga Points
  • Non-refundable
  • No changes permitted

$251.70 Economy Standard

  • 1 checked bag
  • 1 carry-on bag
  • Seat selection
  • Saga Points
  • Non-refundable
  • Ticket changes for a fee

$388.70 Economy Flex

  • 1 checked bag
  • 1 carry-on bag
  • Seat selection
  • Saga Points
  • Airfare refund
  • No change fee

*I did a couple of sample bookings and found similar or lower rates into mid-November. Economy Light rates from DC to REK were $466. So use this sale as what you can expect to see for the remainder of the year. Christmastime trips will be higher. To maximize the chances to view the northern lights, stick to travel over winter months when nights are the longest.

Icelandair displays current deals here to Iceland and dozens of destinations beyond.

Some examples with valid departure dates:

  • $505 Boston – Oslo / August 24-September 3
  • $540 Boston – Frankfurt / August 31-September 4
  • $594 Raleigh – Paris / August 10-20

Note: A round-trip itinerary is not required on Icelandair. You can return on another carrier that offers one-way rates such as Norse, WestJet, or PLAY.

Did you know? When you travel transatlantic with Icelandair, you have the opportunity to add a Stopover in Iceland. Stay for a day, or up to a week without paying more for your ticket (land costs are up to you). Enjoy everything from geothermal bathing to northern lights, as well as all your final destination has to offer. Two destinations for the price of one! It’s simple to book and Icelandair shares itinerary suggestions for staying 24 hours or longer.
