SAS Scandinavia Airlines offers some of the lowest round-trip airfares for autumn and early 2025 trips to dozens of Scandinavian and Central Europe destinations. SAS gateway airports are New York JFK, Newark, Washington DC IAD, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami and Boston. Atlanta will become another nonstop route to the SAS hub of Copenhagen starting August 19.

Sale rates vary by destination and season but it’s a great time to lock even late summer trips to enjoy the most northern parts of Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

The lowest round-trip rates are no-frills, seat-only travel, or the SAS Go Light category (checking one bag can cost you over $200). There are three additional Economy fare types — with each tier a tad more expensive but with more perks and flexibility.

There’s SAS Go Smart, Go Smart Bio, Go Smart Youth Bio (if you’re under 26) and Go Pro. See what each category includes here. You can split your journey and fly Go Light over water and return in Go Smart class, for instance. The higher the fare, the more perks included such as the option for a full refund.

Here are some of the best round-trip bargains (round-trip Go Light):

  • $500 Boston – Copenhagen
  • $476 DC – Brussels
  • $507 Newark – Copenhagen
  • $490 Newark – Bergen
  • $480 Newark – Paris
  • $468 JFK – Warsaw
  • $545 Chicago – Milan

You can land these rates when departing (to most cities) from early September through early December or again from January through early March.

SAS begins their 9+ hour nonstop service between Atlanta and Copenhagen, Denmark on August 19. While any new nonstop route from ATL is welcome (and at low rates!), SAS does not offer many European destinations with smooth connections to or from their hub of Copenhagen.

For instance, Atlanta to Zurich, Switzerland requires a 7 hr, 40 min layover outbound and 14 hr, 45 min layover on the return. This could be a big travel plus for some. The outbound layover would be perfect to scoot into the city center for lunch and a walkabout and a longer overnight stay before returning to Atlanta. But that means a hotel night and some meals to add to the travel budget. However, tweak your dates a day forward or back to find shorter layovers of less than two hours to Atlanta (not from all cities). Economy round-trip rates start from $530.

A logical SAS round-trip from ATL to London has the CPH layover at 4 hr, 40 min and 3 hr, 40 min on the return. Economy rates from just $570 round-trip. The upgrade to Go Smart is $700 round-trip or $950 Go Pro.

Although some may love this option, the most illogical route is Atlanta to Dublin. The layovers in Copenhagen in each direction are 21 hours outbound; 24 hours return. Think of it as seeing two countries on one cheap ticket!

Tip: Google Flights has a filter that lets you adjust total flight hours. This will help you search for shorter layovers for SAS or any other flight route.

Other round-trip SAS Go Light rates from Atlanta:

  • $420 Oslo
  • $467 Dublin
  • $486 Warsaw
  • $500 Zurich
  • $530 Stockholm
  • $548 Paris
  • $560 Amsterdam
  • $570 Copenhagen (nonstop)
  • $570 London (compare to Delta’s Basic Economy of $814; $1,024 Main Economy)
  • $594 Manchester UK
  • $600 Porto, Lisbon or Venice
