SAS sale: Nonstop flights from Atlanta starting at $650 round-trip

Starting on June 17, SAS Scandinavian Airlines will kick off a daily nonstop flight connecting Copenhagen, Denmark to Atlanta. SAS is the flag carrier of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.

Through a collaboration with Delta Air Lines, passengers can seamlessly continue their journey to other Delta-served destinations from/to Atlanta. SAS will exit the Star Alliance loyalty program in favor of SkyTeam, the Delta/Air France/KLM/Virgin Atlantic partnership across the Atlantic.

SAS departure airports for the summer season include:

• Atlanta
• New York Newark and JFK
• Chicago
• Boston
• DC Dulles
• Los Angeles
• San Francisco
• Miami

Travelers can connect in Copenhagen to reach dozens of destinations in Scandinavia and Europe. Use the Low Fare Calendar for rates for travel through August. You will see a drop-down list of departure airports. To date, Atlanta has not yet been added.

A Scandinavian Christmas wouldn’t be complete without visiting the cozy Christmas markets, which are perfect for socializing and holiday shopping. Enjoy the sight of magical Christmas lights during “the blue hour,” while sitting by an open fire with a cup of warm mulled wine and hot chocolate. And shop for unique gifts, knick-knacks and traditional treasures. Numerous markets are set up across much of Denmark on various opening dates from early November through the New Year. Some markets have free entry and others require an advance purchase ticket. Here are just a few just in Copenhagen:

Højbro Plads Julemarked hosts an old-fashioned Christmas tradition with Christmas trees and decorations, about 80,000 sparkling Christmas lights, reindeer, and Santa’s sleigh. Free.

The Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Market at Nytorv is named after a world-famous and beloved children’s storyteller. Every stall is named for one of his fairy tales and, naturally, has its own theme.

Some other markets worthy of a visit are located by the Nyhavn harbor, Kongens Nytorv, and also at the Renaissance castle Kronborg. And foodies will appreciate the Meatpacking District Christmas market, as it’s praised for the greatest variety of Danish delicacies.

The most famous Christmas market is thrown at Tivoli Gardens, a 20-acre amusement park and pleasure garden that first opened in 1843 and is open year-round in the city center. Admission tickets required.
