What a wonderful addition to the number of Delta nonstop flights from Atlanta! Starting March 30, Delta will offer nonstop service to Athens, Greece from the ATL. Delta’s Atlanta hub will make it easy for travelers from hundreds of cities across the country to an adventure in Athens and perhaps to one of the more than 200 Greek islands.

For a very short time, Delta offers an economy class rate of $718 round-trip when departing April 2 through May 2. For comparison, Delta will charge a minimum of $1,200 for the cheapest seat on this nonstop route outside of the discount travel dates. Economy fares will be as high as $2,000 during peak tourist season. Additionally, airfare with other carriers never falls under $600-$700 and that’s with one flight connection in the states or Europe. So consider this a great savings opportunity!

You can upgrade to Main Cabin economy for $918. This fare category includes a free carry-on bag, a free checked bag, an advance seat selection, standard boarding (vs last to board with Basic economy) and a free ticket change (a fare difference may apply).

Call your travel pals because they too can pay as low as $630 round-trip to Athens from Kansas City, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Vegas, Salt Lake City and Birmingham and from $750 Chicago. Many more U.S. airport gateways will be priced about the same.

Another shock is that Delta will require as few as 64,000 SkyMiles (+$59 tax) for redemption on round-trip travel.

Numerous ferry companies make up the 140+ ferry crossings daily from Athens (Piraeus) with sailing durations starting from 40 minutes. Here’s a good guide for the latest sailing information with fare search.

For instance, ferry prices from Athens to Mykonos can range between $92 and $375 depending on the operator, season and whether you are traveling with a vehicle.
