“Everything’s $1†is the slogan for Dollar Tree, but that doesn’t mean you have to pay $1 for each item that’s in your shopping cart. In fact, some people don’t spend a penny on their dollar store hauls!

Little-known ways to save more at Dollar Tree
An extreme couponer named Mary says on her YouTube channel that she gets about $1,500 in Dollar Tree merchandise for free every month. This requires multiple trips to multiple stores — and tons of coupons!
But you don’t have to clip coupons all day to save like Mary.
Aside from items that regularly cost less than $1, there are three main ways to get stuff at a discount at Dollar Tree: newspaper coupons, Internet coupons and cash back apps.
1. Newspaper coupons
According to Dollar Tree’s coupon policy, you’re allowed to use one manufacturer coupon for every single item purchased in one of their stores. So a $1 coupon will mean you’re getting the item for free!
In addition, Dollar Tree says it accepts up to four like coupons (not total) per household per day.
2. Internet coupons
Dollar Tree will take up to two Internet coupons per household per day. These coupons must also be manufacturer coupons, but you just print them off from various websites on the Internet.
3. Cash back apps
In addition to coupons, you can use cash back apps like Ibotta and MobiSave to earn rebates on items at Dollar Tree. When we checked, Ibotta had 25-cent rebates on any brand of shampoo, cereal, eggs and ice cream.
The money you earn from these apps can easily be transferred to a PayPal account.
What exactly can you get for free?
Merchandise will vary by store, but there are coupons for popular items like medicine, beauty products and groceries. The Krazy Coupon Lady updates a weekly list of coupons for Dollar Tree and where to find them.

Pro tip: Print out the coupon policy!
As Mary pointed out on YouTube, she’s had some bad experiences couponing at Dollar Tree, mostly because store managers and cashiers don’t seem to understand the coupon policy themselves.
Click here to review the policy and take it to the store with you in case there’s a problem.
