It's like Christmas in July at Republic Wireless, which has just launched nine Android smartphones and new data plans starting at $15 a month.
This is a huge step forward for the carrier, which previously worked with only a few phones.

For those who aren’t familiar, Republic Wireless’ technology relies heavily on Wi-Fi for calls, text messages and the Internet. The carrier says it blends Wi-Fi with cellular to create “expanded network coverage” at a lower cost.
How much will the new plans cost? More on that in a second. First, take a look at the new devices:

Starting August 11, you can also buy a SIM card from Republic and activate an account using your own device from the list. If you’re looking for a cheaper phone, Republic says stay tuned for more options.
In the meantime, if you get one of the phones, you’ll have these no contract plans to choose from:
Due to its heavy reliance on Wi-Fi, Republic says the $20 1GB plan would be enough for 85% of its members. However, there are additional plans that offer up to 10GB of data.
