Avelo Air: Service from Atlanta starting at $72 one way

Ultra-low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines opened its New Haven, Connecticut base in 2021 with just four routes. Today, Avelo serves over 40 destinations from these airports (and continues to grow):

  • Los Angeles’ Hollywood Burbank BUR
  • Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven HVN
  • Orlando International MCO
  • Delaware Valley’s Wilmington Airport ILG
  • Raleigh-Durham International RDU
  • Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International LAS

Starting on May 2, Avelo will add flights from and to Atlanta to southern Connecticut with four flights a week operating on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The airline will face competition from Delta Air Lines, which operates up to five daily flights between Atlanta and Bradley International Airport BDL (lowest one-way rates start from $219) — about 50 miles away from New Haven HVN in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Avelo is currently the only airline at Tweed-New Haven Regional Airport (a 90-minute train ride to NYC). But that’s one of the positives of flying with carriers that serve smaller and more convenient airports to save time, money and hassle.

One-way rates from and to Atlanta and New Haven average $72. You can book trips through September 2.

Everything else is extra to that fare. There are choices for seat selection. A standard seat selection starts at $11. However, you can select a seat upgrade for an additional 2, 5 or 8 inches of legroom for up to $39. Families with kids 13 and under will always be seated with an accompanying adult at no extra cost.

Checked bags will cost you, too. Important to know: Additional fees will apply for checked bags not pre-purchased during your initial flight reservation. For that reason, it’s wise to use this option to save money.

Avelo permits you to cancel your trip at least 7 days in advance or up until 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time. The monies spent on your ticket will go into the Avelo Travel Funds account which can be redeemed toward a future Avelo flight. In case you need to hold your price and reservation for a bit, you can also cancel a ticket at no cost within 24 hours of purchase and not be charged any fee.
